Don't forget Jesus was a homeless person.

I think alot of times Christians forget to really picture Jesus how he was, a very homeless person. If he were on earth today I imagine that instead of being in America in all of the giant sanctuaries and glamour of church, he would prolly be in a place like the Congo, or South Africa, or in post-soviet russia working with the millions of people surviving through poverty. He would be wearing clothing that was torn and would probably have a small napsack of a few possessions, including a bible that was beat to shreds. His feet would have blisters from walking everywhere, but he would have an absolutely glorious smile on his beautiful face.
I don't believe that everyone has to go and sell all of their possessions in order to enter the kingdom but I do know one thing. At any point in time a person should be able to sell all of their possessions if called to do so. I think where alot of people get tripped up is that it is all about the heart. Where is your heart? Are you holding on to your possessions so that you can help others who are in need? Because if that is the situation continue to give and help because that is necessary for the Church to thrive in the world today. But if you are holding on to your possessions and are looking for an easy way out be weary, you might regret your decision much like Ananias and Saphira (spelling?).
I think that is the main problem in the church today, is that we throw money at charities rather than realizing the the Church in it's essence, is the best possible charity of all. The world Church has more volunteers than any other organization on the planet (if they were all willing). We could end hunger in a heartbeat, by eating half of the food we currently do and giving the rest to the homeless.
Why not house the homeless in the church while they are trying to find housing and get back on their feet? If the first though in your mind is that they would steal something, remember that everything in that church is the Lord's and he would have let them sleep there.
Remember, Jesus was a homeless man.

   Just something to think about.

Christians in the government? Stock markets and airports? Oh my!;

So, as the stock market took a giant hit yesterday, the job market looks ever-growing worse, and the United States credit got downgraded (which is insane), I felt like this was the perfect time to write a post!

As I was sitting in the airport yesterday waiting to pick up Alivia from her flight (and oh yes, I made a sign for her for when she walked out the gate, i know, I'm good) I realized that, um, America has the tendency to spend way too much money on the unnecessaries. They will spend money on top of the line chandeliers in an airport, but consistently not take care of the homeless people like they should. Honestly, I feel like the government is just impossible to rely on anymore.

Which bring me to a slight discussion point. I'd love to know people's thoughts on Christians in the government? If you look at the life of Jesus he seems to live a life outside of the government, in which the early church lived underneath the government relying on each other and God for their "welfare" check. At the same time, Christians in the government have the opportunity to fight for good in this country.

Remember, Jesus was not only the Christ, but the greatest revolutionary, and rebel of all time. Constantly  going against the grain of the government.

I'd love some thoughts!

Well This Could Get Addicting.....

Even though I probably don't have a ton of readers, and probably never will.  I will continue because I feel that this is quite the awesome time, and I'm not use to writing a ton.

I go back to college this weekend and am on my last week of freedom yet this just seems like a really exciting way to spend it!

Well this year at school me and my friend Josh are doing a bible study and I'm not sure what book of the bible I want to cover, or what study book I might wanna do? Any suggestions? I'm liking the book forgotten god by Francis Chan and also the Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne. In my own bible study with Alivia I am doing the book of James and I feel like maybe doing something old testament with the guys at school. Lemme know! Anybody reading this is more than welcome to answer the question!

I kinda wanna write a story for one of these posts. We will see what I decide on!

So, I'm assuming anyone who is reading this knows we relatively well, but since I'm new to this I'll start by introducing myself.

My name is Joseph Lyon, and as of the time of this blog I am going to be a sophomore in college. I attend Purdue University in Indiana, Boiler Up! Unfortunately I'm quite the nerd, so I tend to study more than have fun while I'm up there.

I have a mom and a dad and one little brother that although I love him to death, annoys the crap out of me. Oh I do believe I forgot to mention my major! I'm majoring in Biological Engineering and Biochemistry! Fun stuffs. Anywho, let's continue with my life!

I have a girlfriend, sorry ladies, and we have been dating about 7 months officially. She's quite the awesome person!

Uhh.....but on to the purpose of this blog!

As I said earlier, I wouldn't consider myself as much a christian as a Jesus follower, and I'm sure I'll go into details later with that one. And because I'm part of a dying breed (religious folks on a college campus), I figured my view on a few things would be enlightening for me to write down. But whoever is reading this may also find it enlightening. So with that I think I shall end this blog post. Please tell me if my writing style is too informal or if it's alright!
